Athletic Director

Press Release

After ten years as Athletic Director for the Rochester School District Mr. David Colson has requested a return to his roots in education as a Physical Education Teacher.   Mr. Colson will assume the responsibilities of Physical Education Teacher at the start of the 2010-2011 school year at Rochester Middle School.  Prior to accepting the position of Athletic Director in August of 2000; Mr. Colson taught Physical Education at Chamberlain Street School, East Rochester School and Rochester Middle School for thirteen years.

During Mr. Colson’s tenure as AD he helped to bring several new athletic opportunities into the District, such as high school boys and girls lacrosse; boys and girls freshman soccer, baseball, and softball; grade 7 boys and girls basketball; and middle school boys and girls lacrosse.  These new options for Rochester students have served to enhanced the extensive Athletic Program that has expanded over the years to also include football, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, track & field, volleyball, skiing, gymnastics, swimming, school spirit/cheerleading, and wrestling.

Serving as a representative of the Rochester School District to NHIAA and all other state and national athletic associations the Athletic Director’s role is quite versatile.   Mr. Colson worked with and assisted coaches, coordinating games, practices, tournaments, and assuring that NHIAA Guidelines and Rules were adhere to.   Although there have been many rewarding experiences through his tenure as Athletic Director, Mr. Colson is looking forward to taking a step back from overseeing and coordinating  all athletic events to participating as a spectator;  taking pleasure in watching his children’s games and supporting them as a “parent”.

The Athletic Director position has been posted and advertised.  To allow time to find a suitable replacement and ensure a smooth opening to the Fall Sports Season, Mr. Colson has agreed to fulfill the AD responsibilities until August 27th.  The Rochester School District would like to thank Mr. Colson for his efforts and commitment to the students and School District over the last ten years as Athletic Director.
