The most recent comparative data for the cost per pupil is on the NHDOE’s website. I reduced the number of Districts to allow a one page comparison. This data is from the 2007-2008 school year.

COST PER PUPIL BY DISTRICT, 2007-2008
The Cost per Pupil represents, with certain adjustments, current expenditures from all funding sources (local, state and federal)
associated with the daily operation of schools. Payments to other school districts and private schools have been subtracted.
Revenues from the sales of lunches have also been excluded.
Cost per Pupil is calculated by subtracting tuition and transportation from K-12 current operating expenditures, and then dividing
by the average daily membership in attendance (ADM-A). The report “State Average Cost Per Pupil and Total Expenditures”
identifies which expenditures have been included or excluded. The per pupil amount of all expenditures – operating, tuition,
transportation, equipment, construction, interest and non-K-12 expenditures is $13,521.75.

This an issue that simply drives me crazy!!!…to some degree, the cost of a k-12 education is relevant, but what’s ultimately most import are the results regardless of what is being spent…here is a good little 5 minute video from the Glenn Beck Show…they are talking about the recent decision by the US Congress to end a very successful voucher program in DC schools…this program was having incredible results and Congress voted to end the funding…you will hear that it cost nearly half as much to educate with this program than it does to send kids to public schools in DC…interesting….http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.html?maven_referralObject=4432367&maven_referralPlaylistId=&sRevUrl=http://www.foxnews.com/glennbeck/#
A good story about the DC voucher system congress voted to end…how can we really be serious about improving education if we take viable options off the table?…especially when the cost of education can be reduced…it’s stunning to think that because some of the schools are parochial schools, funding a successful voucher program would have to end…think about all the things that go on inside some schools that “violate” values and beliefs that are being taught in so many students own homes…if we are really serious about improving education, then we need to allow competition be an option…
