Dear Parents / Guardians,

I am writing today to allay any concerns you might have about an event that transpired today (10/22) at Rochester Middle School and which has subsequently been made public.

The administration was made aware that a student may have brought to school a prohibited item. Upon investigation, school officials did discover a B-B gun. The student was immediately suspended. At the time the situation was brought to our attention there was not an imminent threat to safety. Had there been either a concern for school safety or had we received an actual threat, we would have activated our emergency response procedures by first stabilizing the situation followed immediately by broadcasting details of the situation via our Honeywell Instant Alert System.

When speaking with your child about this incident, you might take the opportunity to explain what items are appropriate to bring to school and which items should be left at home.
